Mazda’s North American wing will be introducing an MX-5 Club edition at next week’s New York International Auto Show. Although the model sold in the US will be slightly heavier than its European counterpart, Mazda aims to shave about 70kg off of its weight, bringing the final measurement down to 1057kg on the manual version.
The auto gearbox, which also features six speeds, will weigh about 23 kilograms more. The engine on this the club edition carries over, with the 155hp 2.0 litre SKYACTIV being offered up as the only choice.
Regardless, they’re both intended to be the most aggressive road-going iterations of the latest MX-5 around, recapturing the essence of early sports cars.
This new MX-5 is shorter than the first yet wider than the last, and with all the advancements in safety and technology, we’re excited to see what Mazda can do with a stripped-down Club edition.
