Photos of a new Korean crossover have just been released. The car in question, the Hyundai i20 Active will be based off the original i20, which for all intents and purposes, is a supermini.
The transition to crossover adds a centimetre in terms of length, two additional centimetres in terms of ground clearance and five height-wise. It’s also 26mm wider, but it’s difficult to say if any of the additional space translates to usable space, as the wheelbase and trunk loading capacity remain unchanged.
There’s a little more rugged, dark plastic cladding around the wheel arches and side skirts to give the car some added masculinity. Despite dressing the car up in beefier clothing, the i20 Active will not be mechanically different from the original model. It will, however, have 16″ alloy rims, roof rails and cornering lights.
In India, where the model will debut, the interior comes in either Tangerine Orange or Aqua Blue. It features goodies such as keyless entry & start and an impressive media system complete with an eight-speaker setup and a number of input options. The i20, even in its regular form hasn’t reached Malaysian shores, but given Hyundai’s success in penetrating the local market with great value-for-money vehicles, it won’t be surprising to see the i20 make it across when the time is right.
