The German manufacturer didn’t reveal any specifics but confirmed that they planned to offer plug-in hybrid powertrains on models from everything C-Class and up, indicating also that the GLE might see such a variant soon.
The remaining models are shrouded in secrecy but could include the GLC, GLE Coupe, GLS and next-generation E-Class. Mercedes also dropped hints that they could offer a production version of the Concept V-ision which recently debuted at the Geneva Motor Show.
Mercedes believes that plug-in hybrids offer their customers the best of both worlds, giving them the option in the city to drive in all-electric mode, while on long journeys they benefit from the combustion engine’s range. In addition, hybridization makes the combustion engine more efficient and gives the cars interesting dynamics.
