There are many iconic cars out there. There are many cars that evoke emotion, cars that are incredibly fast and raucous- cars that win races, rallies, and live on in history. But there is something about the humble AE86 that manages to hold the attention of driving enthusiasts. Of course for those who have never seen or heard of the AE86, it’s difficult to imagine that this boxy little coupe from the 1980s could ever be more than just a basic Japanese car. The rise of Initial D certainly helped in improving the popularity of the car, but truth be told the AE86 was a popular model even before it’s anime and manga heyday. It didn’t have much power, but it had balance and it was responsive to inputs- something a lot of cars these days fail to emulate. Here we have a video of an AE86 owner in Spain who describes his journey with the car, and his love for this slice of the 80s.
