Isuzu came to through for victims of the recent East Coast floods. The company was kind enough to lend its best-selling D-Max for two aid runs to Kuala Krai, Kelantan – the worst hit district in the East Coast.It answered the SOS of local boy Terence Fernandez who was organizing aid relief to his hometown.
“To say the roads were bad would be an understatement. We are talking about going through what used to be roads where the currents had washed away the bitumen and gravel, as bridges that were partly washed away,” said Fernandez.
“We needed a tough four-wheel drive to help us reach victims in hard-to-reach places so I sent word to the car industry to loan a suitable vehicle and Isuzu was the first to respond with the D-Max,” said Fernandez who is Investigations Editor at The Edge.
The D-Max helped ferry one tonne of aid collected mainly by the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Sentul, as well as individual well-wishers that included people who call Kuala Krai their hometown.
The aid included food, water, diapers, medication and blankets to the district including the worst hit area of Manek Urai and Dusun Bunut where 10 households were cut off for a week.
The D-Max also made its way to Kampung Chegar Bonggor in Gua Musang, as well as other kampungs including Kampung Bekok, Jalan Jirat, Kampung Tualang, Batu Jong and Jalan Geale.
Fernandez said he was impressed with the fuel consumption of the 2.4 diesel engine as the two runs from Dec 30-Jan 2; and Jan 8-12 only cost RM250 covering 1200km.
