This British luxury car producer seems to be diversifying aggressively, having recently launched the XE in an attack on the entry-level luxury sedan market. We’ve heard rumours of Jaguar producing an SUV or crossover vehicle to join their model line-up in the coming years, especially with the C-X17 concept SUV being received so well.
Confirmed for the 2016 model year is the F-PACE, which will be Jaguar’s SUV (or crossover) addition to the range. Said to be based on the F-Type coupe, the F-PACE will allow Jaguar to go head to head with cars like the Porsche Macan and BMW X3.
As discussed earlier in the month, luxury manufacturers are really pushing for the luxury crossover and luxury SUV segments in order to get a slice of the pie before the market reaches saturation. Audi reported that 1 in 3 of their vehicles sold were from their SUV range, which is more than enough of an argument for a luxury car brand to have their own SUV.
The F-PACE may be a little bit late to the party, but it will be interesting to see how this British manufacturer interprets the luxury SUV. Will they go for classic British ruggedness a la Land Rover, or would they aim for a more stylised contemporary design like Porsche? Only time will tell, and Jaguar will no doubt have pre-production mules running around over the coming months.
