The F1 series practice session in preparation for the 2014 Brazilian Grand Prix GP at the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo, Brazil sees Nico Rosberg and his No. 6 Mercedes with a lap of 1:12.123 in the lead. Lewis Hamilton and his No. 44 Mercedes was second quick at 1:12.336. The championship points leader indicated over the radio the car was fine, but he was unable to put a quick lap together.
Kimi Raikkonen and his No. 7 Ferrari was best of the rest at 1:12.695 – about half a second off Rosberg’s time.
Daniel Ricciardo and his No. 3 Red Bull was fourth quick followed by Valtteri Bottas (Williams), Felipe Massa (Williams), Fernando Alonso (Ferrari), Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso), Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull), and Kevin Magnussen (McLaren).
Practice session two was red flagged three times for the removal of cars that had become disabled. Jean-Eric Vergne and his No. 25 Toro Rosso was the first stopping traffic. Fernando Alonso and his No. 14 flaming Ferrari was the cause of the second red flag. Esteban Gutierrez and his No. 21 Sauber stopped on track causing the second flag.
By the end of the practice, just 14 cars were able to run. Overall, 18 Formula One F1 entries participated in the practice. The series continues to be short four cars due to the financial troubles of Caterham and Marussia. Next up, practice three on Saturday (today) ahead of qualifying for the 2014 Brazilian Grand Prix.
