Suzuki will now offer in 2015 for European buyers a new 1.2.-liter petrol engine that utilizes twin fuel injectors for improved fuel economy on the very popular Swift. While slightly less powerful than the current 1.2-liter petrol at 90PS (89hp) versus 94PS (93hp), the new 1.2-liter Dualjet gains in torque delivering 120Nm at 4,400rpm versus 118Nm at 4,800rpm, but most importantly, Suzuki claims a 16% improvement in fuel economy.
Aided by the addition of Engine Auto Stop Start (EASS) and minor alterations to gear ratios, the Swift 1.2L Dualjet returns 65.7mpg UK (54.7mpg US or 4.3l/100km) on the combined fuel consumption cycle, a 9.2mpg UK increase over the current engine. Furthermore, CO2 emissions were reduced to 99g/km, meaning that Swift models with this engine are now exempt from VED (Vehicle Excise Duty) charges.
