A sub-brand of Chery Auto, Cowin is a new car brand aiming to make use of a booming segment of the market that sees young buyers seeking new cars they can afford. Cowin Auto, whose Chinese designation is translated into Kayi, is set to debut at the Chengdu Auto Show this September.
Cowin will start by recycling several Chery Automobile models to start and then slowly move to their own designs. Cowin’s range will start with the what was previously knows as the Chery Cowin 1 and Chery Cowin 2 small sedans, while a sedan with slightly larger dimensions, the Chery Cowin 3. The list also includes the Chery Cowin SUV, as well as the sporty-looking Chery A3 hatchback and sedan and the Chery E3 sedan.
Aside from these, Cowin Auto will also get new models, such as yet another sporty-looking compact sedan, a dynamic-looking crossover, as well as an SUV. These three models are to be built around the same architecture, with the first to hit the road set to be the SUV, which should come to the market next year. China continues to hold its position as the world’s largest car market with 8.2% year-on-year increase registered for the first seven months of 2014, where some 13.3 million cars were sold.
