Arai has announced a new tribute helmet which honors the memory of Joey Dunlop, one of the biggest motorcycle racers of all times. The new lid is the exact replica of the helmet Joey Dunlop wore in 1985, one of his most successful racing years, with the Irishman being the second rider to win three races in the Isle of Man TT, after Mike Hailwood. Dunlop then won the Junior TT, the Formula 1 TT and the Senior TT. The same year also brought three victories in the Ulster GP and two more wins in the North West 200 races.
Joey Dunlop’s 1985 Arai helmet had the DownTown Radio sponsor stickers with the station’s logo on the side of the now legendary yellow/black design. DownTown Radio is still on air today, and the “Joey 85” Arai lid maintains all the graphic details of the retro helmet, being the most accurate replica to date.
The Limited Edition RX7-GP Joey Dunlop 1985 Replica Helmet will only be manufactured in a 300-unit run. Each of these helmets will be hand numbered, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Joey’s wife Linda Dunlop personally.
Joey Dunlop remains one of the most successful road racers in history, with his 26 TT wins record still standing today. Joey also won 13 times in the North West 200, 24 times in the Ulster Grand Prix and has 162 victories in other road races. He is also an OBE MBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire and Member of the Order of the British Empire).
