In a segment crowded with sedans and hatchbacks from nearly every car manufacturer in the world, Mitsubishi had a tough task in ensuring their new compact sedan, the Attrage would fare well or better than its many competitors. Mitsubishi product planners started by looking at the current segment leaders from Europe and Japan and extracted all the best selling points from each and every vehicle.
Then came the design. Looking at what the next generation of buyers wanted coupled with the needs of traditional buyers, Mitsubishi took the interior packaging seriously and made sure safety features and cabin amenities were ready for buyers both young and old.
For the single adult, this was to be their car for work and play combining stylish looks for play and functional needs for low cost commuting. The ‘push’ start ignition is a big ‘plus’ point for this segment of buyers who see this as a luxury feature found normally in cars costing double or more. The segment best small turning radius of just 4.8 meters allows for that weekend food hunt in small towns where the streets are narrow and the need to park in tight spaces easily when out in city on a weekend night out.
For the young parent, this was a car that provided safety features for the most precious cargo, their child and to cater for family runs on the highway as well as the balik kampong visits for in-laws and out-laws. Even if the Attrage is a compact sedan, the boot is surprisingly massive allowing for 2 full-sized suitcases and 3 to 4 smaller bags squeezed in-between. So long holidays away with the family is no issue. Keyless entry is welcomed by mothers who need to carry their young kids/toddlers without having to look and fumble around for the car keys in their handbag or pocket. Just reach for the door and pull to open.
For the retired couple, the Attrage had be comfortable for aging backs, easy to get in and out with good high seating position, easy entry and exit without too much bending and the much needed back seat comfort for the friends that would occasionally tag along for dinner or breakfast. Seating is quite good for the driver and passenger and the driving position is slightly elevated, which gives a good view of road. The ‘tall’ nature of the car is more than just an eye-catching look; it provides ample headroom, in fact more so than in an average sedan. The Attrage is equipped with premium features usually associated with cars from a segment above. Dual-airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), 15-inch wheels and fog lamps are standard across all variants.
The Attrage GS is equipped with Smart Key (keyless entry) and push start, remote trunk release, digital automatic air-con and leather wrapped steering wheel for a touch of luxury while the high specification Attrage SE has LED daytime running lights, a sporty bodykit, security window film, leather seats and a 2-DIN audio head unit with reverse camera.
