Ford in Europe has had to increase production at its Cologne site in Germany to meet growing demand for the hot hatch compact car. The daily output for the Fiesta is now 1,850 units, up from 1,650 before the start of 2014. The carmaker has also 6 extra weekend shifts since February this year to cope with rising demand. Ford employs 4000 workers to build the Fiesta at this Cologne factory.
Ford sold 4-percent less Fiesta in Europe in 2013 to just 292,640, but the subcompact remained the best-selling model in its segment, according to data from JATO Dynamics. Ford started building the Fiesta in 1976, with the model now in its seventh generation. Ford expects Fiesta production to top the 16-million mark this month. The Fiesta ST and Ecoboost powered Fiesta 1-liter will be launched in Malaysia very soon.
