Mercedes Benz has surpassed record figures both in production and sales in 2013. The German luxury carmaker is poised to sell over 1.4 million passenger cars and build over 1.49 million vehicles this year. The sales and production records show that Mercedes-Benz 2020 growth strategy is already getting tangible results. “In 2013, we have taken a decisive step forward in our strategy for growth. Our model initiative is well under way,” remarked Ola Källenius, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars responsible for Marketing & Sales. Källenius added that the new ‘Best Customer Experience’ sales and marketing initiative has enabled them to align themselves better to the needs of customers while they are optimizing their internal sales structures. “That means we are well positioned to make 2014 a record year as well.”
Mercedes launched the new E-Class and the CLA compact coupe in April 2013 for the global market. The carmaker then introduced the CLA to the United States market in September, where it became a hot selling vehicle. In just four months, Mercedes was able to deliver over 12,000 vehicles to US customers.
Mercedes also logged very high demand for the all new S-Class that it has become the best-selling luxury sedan in the world just weeks after it was introduced, something made possible by a production schedule that started up in record time at the carmaker’s Sindelfingen site. Mercedes is producing S-Class units for global markers at the site in a two-shift operation at an output of around 460 vehicles per day.
