McLaren is reportedly working on a new supercar to fill the void in its lineup between the 12C and the million-dollar-plus P1. This the new McLaren, code-named the P15 will challenge cars like the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4.
News of the P15’s existence was confirmed by McLaren Automotive boss Mike Flewitt. He is reported to have said the car will feature a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and mid-mounted twin-turbo V-8, and is still quite some time away from launch.
Flewitt’s description of the car suggests McLaren is likely to once again utilize its flexible MonoCell carbon tub found in the 12C and the P1. The engine, too, sounds like it will be a version of the Ricardo-sourced twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-8 found in those same models. Before the arrival of the P15, McLaren will launch a limited edition 12C with more power goodiess and also an all-new car, an entry-level model, codename the P13 to target the likes of the Ferrari California and high-end Porsche 911 variants, and yes, it too will feature McLaren’s MonoCell carbon tub and the Ricardo-sourced twin-turbo V-8. More news to be revealed soon.
