BMW Motorrad says the past year brought an all-time annual sales high, the third one in succession. BMW sold no less than 115,215 motorcycles and maxi scooters worldwide in 2013, an 8.3% increase over the 2012 sales, with 6,343 units sold in December, 4.5% more than in the same month of 2012.
The German market recorded the biggest sales, moving 21,473 motorcycles and maxi scooters, a 4.7% over the 2012 sales, and was followed by the USA, with 14,100 vehicles sold and a whopping increase around 17 per cent.
Other large individual markets are France and Italy, each with more than 10,000 units sold, Brazil and the UK. UK alone sold 15% more units in 2013 than in 2012.
The new liquid-cooled R1200GS is the undisputed star: almost 30,000 bikes were sold to customers in 2013. This bike also marked the best-ever first year for a new model in the Bavarian manufacturer’s history. Next in line come the F800GS (10,166 units) and the F700GS with 7,155 units. Liter-class sport bikes also fared well: just under 6,800 S1000RR were sold, and almost 2,700 HP4.
