This is Volkswagen’s luxury MPV. When Volkswagen designers looked at putting together a large luxury MPV, they knew that their new MPV had to accommodate 7-8 adults in comfort. It had to have the dynamics of an executive sedan as much as possible and power delivery had to be more than decent for highway commuting with a full load of passengers and some luggage.
Volkswagen brought the all new Sharan to market with all the necessary boxes ticked and ready to challenge the Japanese luxury MPV players.
The Sharan is a big vehicle at 4.8m long and some 1.9m wide which makes it a full sized MPV. Stand back and look at it and the Sharan does not look massive like most Japanese MPVs. This is probably because it is well designed from the front to the back. Park the Sharan in a standard parking lot bay and then only you will see how wide and long it is as it fits the bay almost perfectly.
Under the bonnet of the Sharan is a familiar 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four engine which is also used in the iconic Volkswagen Golf GTI. This powerful and intoxicating engine produces 200bhp and 280Nm of torque. The Sharan’s powerplant provides for an impressive amount of acceleration even in a vehicle of the Sharan’s size. The 0-100km/h sprint is dispatched in a just 8.3 seconds which makes the competition look slow in comparison.
To add to the excitement, the fuel efficiency is segment best as the competition uses large capacity engines with slow reacting gearboxes. The Sharan uses the same Dual-Clutch gearbox (DSG) that is used in the Volkswagen Golf GTI.
