The Vespa Primavera was originally launched in 1968 in an era when those of the younger generation were keen to exercise their freedom of expression. To many, this relatively simplistic machine, with its nimble and innovative lines, was easy and fun to ride and provided riders with the ability and freedom to explore. The Primavera went on to become one of the most durable and best-loved models in the Vespa range.
While the 2014 Vespa Primavera bears some resemblance to the original model, the new machine is innovative, technologically ground-breaking, agile and dynamic. The Vespa Primavera adopts some of the style and technical features of the Vespa 946 – the most technologically advanced model ever created. During the design phase, the focus was on increasing the level of comfort, safety and riding pleasure. This model will be introduced into markets this year and replaces the out-going Vespa LX range. The Primavera (Italian for “spring”) is offered in 50cc, 125cc and 150cc versions, with the smallest ready in both 2- and 4-stroke flavors. The best mileage is about 1.56 l/100 km (150 mpg) at an average speed of 5- km/h (31 mph) and this is truly neat, even though we believe this goes for the 50cc model.
With several relocated components, the underseat storage is also a bit bigger, while the optional accessory racks can expand the luggage capacity even further. The front brake rotor remained a 200mm one, while the rear drum went up form 110 to 140mm, and it looks like a we might expect a disc brake in the future.
The dash has been redesigned and blends in the modern hybrid analog/LCD instrumentation with the classic looks of the 70’s. Pictured below is the original Vespa Primavera.
