Electric car manufacturer who has been in and out of business for the past few years, Detroit Electric has now introduced a Lotus Exige-based electric sports car that is ready for sale. This long overdue project is now on it seems. News has been circulating on its production issues. Unfortunately, one month wasn’t enough for the EV manufacturer to begin production, as The Detroit News reports the company has yet to finalize a lease of purchase agreement for its production facility in Plymouth, Michigan, adding that “the immediate fate of the automaker should be known in the next couple of weeks.”
“To further elaborate at this juncture is, unfortunately, not possible as Detroit Electric have entered into negotiations with other parties that have the potential to impact our business strategy and timing. Not only are we legally bound to maintain the confidentiality of the discussions, any comment would by the nature of the situation be pure speculation due to the variables involved,” said Detroit Electric president Don Graunstadt. The Detroit Electric SP:01 will be powered by an air-cooled AC electric motor and two 37kWh lithium-polymer batteries. It will generate 201bhp and 225Nm of torque, with a range of 290km.
