This is the biggest investment in recent years from a tire factory for Malaysia. Having purchased the Silverstone tire factory and business in late 2010, Toyo Tires now have a state of the art all new factory just 4 kilometres away from the running Silverstone factory. Sitting on 148 acres of land and with just 80acres being used at present, this factory is designed for expansion over the years. The factory is unique from other tire factories where it has a ‘green’ helloistrative building which is powered completely by solar power panels on the rooftop. It also has its production area air-conditioned to ensure better tire quality to cater for the high humidity in Malaysia. Other tire factories in Malaysia are not air-conditioned.
Toyo Tires is looking at a 5 million production capacity for this new plant to compliment the 4 million production capacity from the Silverstone plant. Toyo Tires Japan have transferred their technology to the Silverstone factory to produce even better tires.
Toyo Tires sees its self as a growing brand for Malaysia and are looking at the retail chain network with Toyo Retail shops (Toyo Auto Centre) and will work with the OE business (with local car manufacturers). There are already 8 such centres and the biggest two are in Malacca and Kuala Lumpur.
Toyo Tires is working with ASEAN car factories to provide tires right off the production line. Toyota Tires currently has about 3% of the Malaysian market. Toyo Tires sees its self as premium brand and will continue to follow this trend for the Malaysian market.
