Audi Sport AG will be fielding two new R8 LMS ultra cars in the 2013 ADAC GT Masters. Team MS RACING received their quattro GmbH’s race cars which are produced at the Heilbronn-Biberach facility. The handover marked a milestone for quattro GmbH as it entailed the delivery of its 100th race car based to a customer just four years after the sports car project was launched. The Audi R8 LMS ultra car represents the third evolution of the GT3 model. Audi’s line-up in the United States also includes a GRAND-AM version that scored victory at the GT class at the Daytona 24 Hours in January 2013. Franciscus van Meel, Managing Director of quattro GmbH, expressed delight on Team MS RACING’s decision to shift to Audi. A wholly owned subsidiary of Audi, quattro GmbH develops, produces and sells the customer sport race cars of the brand.
The Audi R8 LMS ultra has already grabbed 18 championship titles and a string of endurance wins at the major 24-hour races on the Nürburgring, at Spa, Daytona and Zolder. Van Meel noted that over 50 percent of the race car is based on the Audi R8 production vehicle. He added that the R8 LMS is being fielded to in Australia, Asia, Europe, North and South America.
