This is the car many middle class Malaysian have been waiting for. Already a segment best seller for years, the 1st and 2nd generation Vios was a default choice for many. Now comes an all new model…..the 3rd generation with new looks and possible little changes underneath to maintain its ultra reliable nature.
Aesthetically, the Vios has been given a rather upmarket look which is similar to the Altis. It looks very interesting and the front carries a V-shaped nose and large trapezoidal grille, it looks like the baby brother of the Altis. New to the Vios headlamps are projector lenses instead of conventional reflector-backed bulbs, which gives it an upmarket look. This new Vios has grown in size. It now measures 4,410 mm in length with a width of 1,700 mm. The cabin carries a more upmarket look with better mix of materials and darker colour accents. Under the front hood is the tried and tested Toyota 1.5-liter (1,497 cc) engine, known internally as the 1NZ-FE. It features VVT-i and puts out 109hp at 6000 rpm with 14 Nm of torque at 4200 rpm. Gearing is still a 4-speed auto and of course a 5-speed manual will be available also. More information to come next week when we return from the Bangkok Motor Show.
