Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), the official distributor of Mitsubishi Motors vehicles in Malaysia, has officially launched its 100% Electric Vehicle, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV (Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle) at its first EV Centre, SAG Star (Chan Sow Lin). The i-MiEV is now ready for sale to the Malaysian market. 100% electric with zero emissions released when driving, yet offering surprising power and a smooth, quiet ride, the i-MiEV is priced at RM136,118.50– (on-the-road without insurance) and made available in two colours – Frost White and 2-tone Red Frost White.
The i-MiEV comes with a free 5-Year maintenance package and 5-Year warranty (or 100,000km) package which covers labour cost for periodical vehicle check, air conditioner filter and brake fluid.
The i-MiEV comes standard with 2-DIN Touch Screen Entertainment System with GPS Navigation, Solar tint film, Auto Climate Control Air Conditioner, Double LED Head Lamp, LED Rear Combination Lamp, Auto Light Control, Electric Power Steering, Aero Wiper Blade, Leather wrap steering wheel and shift knob as well as a Charging Cable with Control Box. The i-MiEV is also capable of an impressive 4.5m turning radius.
For safety purposes, the i-MiEV also offers a number of safety features for greater peace of mind. It comes with 6 Airbags and Mitsubishi’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body construction which absorbs impact while providing a rigid occupant cell during a collision.
The i-MiEV batteries also come with advanced safety. The batteries are placed in a waterproof battery pack that is located inside the body frame and enclosed in a well-crib frame to protect against impact damage.
Producing 49 kW of power and 180 Nm of instant torque, the i-MiEV is powered solely by electricity, and can be recharged from a regular home socket. With a top speed of 130 km/h, the four-seater vehicle can run up to 150 kilometres* (93 miles) after charging eight hours at 230 volts. The i-Miev also accelerates strongly and linearly for easy passing. *Measured by NEDC (New European Drive Cycle)
The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is based on the gasoline-powered i minicar, but instead of an internal combustion engine, its sole power source is a lithium-ion battery pack powering a permanent magnet electric motor. The 330V battery is located under the floor deck, while the electric motor is housed under the luggage compartment.
First EV Centre
MMM’s first official EV Centre, SAG Star (Chan Sow Lin), is also a 3S (Sales, Service and Spare Parts) centre. It offers as a one-stop EV Sales and Service centre and will come equipped with a free charging facility for all EV customers, with Mitsubishi i-MiEV customers given first priority.
Also joining Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MMM Mr. Tetsuya Oda at the media launch were the Directors of SAG Star – En. Adam Khan, Mr. Justin See and En. Zulkifli. MMM’s first i-MiEV owner, Mr. Masaharu Iwata from Mitsubishi Corporation Kuala Lumpur was also present and presented with an exclusive designed i-MiEV shirt as a token of appreciation.
EV Plans
MMM also revealed that it is confident of achieving its i-MiEV sales target of 50 units for the fiscal year ending March 2014 and the plan to expand its EV sales and service network across Peninsular and East Malaysia by opening another four EV centres within the next one year.
