Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has introduced its rejuvenated Sonata Facelift 2.0L and 2.4L that come with a refreshed exterior look, improvements in the interior and the power plant as well as great new features. On the exterior, the Sonata Facelift receives a revamped front grille, which adds on to the elegance of the car. New wraparound tail lamps with energy saving LED illumination and a new pair of front fog lamps are also among upgrades.
Exclusive to the 2.4L is a new and sleeker, cat-eye shaped HID headlamps and additional LED lights incorporated to the fog lamps. These upgrades are introduced to enhance safety and increase visibility on the road especially for night driving. The LED wing mirror repeaters are also redesigned for a sleeker look to complement the elegant look of the Sonata. The design of the wheel is also tweaked slightly for both the versions while the 2.4L version gets an upgraded 18-inch wheel.
In the interior of the Sonata Facelift 2.0L, one will notice slight changes to the centre console. Control buttons are repositioned for the convenience of the driver and a deep blue LED backlight has been added for better visibility. A Dual Zone Auto Climate air-conditioning feature is introduced in the 2.4L version. Drivers can set different temperatures for the left and right zones of the car and maintain them throughout the journey. The gearshift for both the 2.0L and 2.4L is improved with the step-gate shift pattern type resulting in a more precise shift with increased safety. What’s new is also the Lukas Blackbox Video Recorder, which provides real time recording of the situation in front while the car is moving. In the event of an accident, the recording can be presented as evidence.
The Sonata Facelift 2.4L version gets 6 airbags, which includes the driver, front passenger, and curtain airbags for the front and rear seats. Other safety highlights of the 2.4L version include the ASD (Amplitude Selective Damper) which gives a smoother ride as well as an excellent handling of the car, and the Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) that comes with Hill Start Assist Control (HAC). The ESP features an engine control unit that receives input from individual wheel speed sensors, yaw sensor and steering angle sensor. It applies the brakes on individual wheels to help make the vehicle easier to control in precarious and close situations. The HAC gives better control when you are on a slope. It prevents slipping for up to 2 seconds when stopped on an incline.
Improvements are seen in both the handling of the car and its fuel efficiency with the new Nu 2.0 four-cylinder engine that is fitted into the 2.0L version. The Nu engine’s aluminum block and head configuration results a 30 percent lighter unit, shedding more than 33.6 kilograms off the entire engine weight, while still providing comparable strength. The Nu four-cylinder engine also has an offset crankshaft design that reduces friction between the piston and cylinder wall for a one percent improvement in fuel economy.
