News have surfaced that the Malaysian conglomerate DRB-Hicom who now controls Lotus Cars will be releasing the Espirit supercar ahead of the earlier planned scheduled release date by former CEO Dany Bahar. Since taking over Lotus’s parent company Proton last January, DRB-Hicom have set up a new management team and started work on putting the Lotus brand back on its feet. Sales of existing models like the Evora and Exige are not very encouraging and need a facelift and a new model lineup. Development work on the new Espirit car is almost complete, with only signing off and some minor changes still to be completed. The Esprit will retain exceptional performance through its unique lightweight design making it the ultimate expression of Lotus supercar ownership. It is the supercar that will redefine ride and handling, performance, comfort and exclusivity.
The styling of the Esprit echoes the performance of its predecessors with strong lines throughout the sleek low body. The symmetry through the mass and proportion of the Esprit give it an intense look, it’s the perfect example of the new Lotus DNA in action. This new Esprit will offer Lotus fans a mid-engine exotic powered by a twin-turbo 5-liter V8 power plant rated at around 650 horsepower. That’s more power than formidable rivals such as the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C, but pricing for the new Esprit is expected to be no more than on high-end versions of the Porsche 911. The Esprit will be more than an evolution, it will be a redefinition. More information to come in weeks.
