Audi is developing a model that revives the Audi Sport Quattro, which was famous in the 1980s within the rallying world and buyers around the world (original Audi Sport Quattro picture below).
The new car uses the codename ‘Q35’ that stands for 35 years of Quattro. It will be very powerful with an all-wheel drive. It will commemorate the 35th anniversary for the formation of Audi’s AWD system. This two-door coupe will be positioned between the TT and the R8 supercar when it comes to both size and price.
This car will be equipped with a 380-hp turbocharged five-cylinder engine (most probably the powerplant from the TT RS) coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and quattro electronically-controlled all-wheel drive system.
Audi engineers will keep the weight low to 3000 pounds by using alloys and carbon fiber extensively. It will be designed similarly to the Quattro Concept from 2010, which means that it will be reminiscent of the 80′s Sport Quattro’s boxy look and signature c-pillar. Audi will probably find an issue since this model will compete with the iconic Porsche Carrera 4S which is a 380-hp, all-wheel-drive coupe in the Volkswagen Group’s lineup that is priced between the Audi TT and R8.
This Q35 may later lead to a plug-in hybrid model. Audi is targeting annual sales of 10,000 units worldwide. It is likely to be released in time for Quattro’s 35th anniversary. The Q35 is expected to see global release in early 2015.
