The last time we saw a luxury sedan from Mitsubishi it was the Diamante. Since then Mitsubishi has been relatively quiet about re-entring this segment which is dominated by the German brands and Lexus. Now comes news of the Proudia and Dignity (long wheel base version of the Proudia) luxury sedans from Mitsubishi. Following the simple philosophy of the early Perdana from Proton where Mitsubishi supplied a executive sedan to Proton and it was just rebadged, Mitsubishi now has worked a deal with Nissan to rebadged the Fuga (last year there was talk that this was going to be the replacement Perdana from Proton) which is better known here in Malaysia as the Infiniti M25.
The Proudia is the standard model while the Dignity is a long wheelbase variant. The two models are a result of an OEM deal with Nissan and Mitsubishi did not do much to differentiate it from the existing M25/Fuga models. Changes include the automaker’s waterfall front grille, a different front bumper, and of course Mitsubishi badges.
For the Proudia, Japanese buyers can opt for either a 3.7-liter V6 with 328-hp in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, or a 2.5-liter V6 with 222-hp in rear-wheel drive only. The Dignity comes in at 5.9 inches longer than the Proudia and has the same hybrid powertrain found in the M35hL LWB which is a 3.5-liter V6 paired to an electric motor for a combined output of 359-hp.
