Akio Toyoda is keeping to his word in making more desirable Toyota models for enthusiasts. Toyota Motors has now decided to build a convertible version of the GT86. We have the image of what it might look like but this is a unit from a private tuner. For sure the convertible version of the Toyota GT86 will use the same platform as the coupe version. In fact, the platform is good enough to be used on a small four-door sedan or a larger two-door coupe. Under the hood, it will have the same 2.0-liter boxer-four engine delivering 200 hp and mated to a six-speed manual transmission or an automatic gearbox. This new cabriolet will take on the popular Mazda MX-5 Miata, which is one of the best selling compact cabriolets found in the market. The new convertible will arrive sometime in 2014, as Toyota and Subaru need to satisfy the high demand for the coupe versions. Price in Malaysia will be in the region of RM250.000 or slightly less which is a shade more than the popular MX-5 Miata.
