Lexus has had a 11-year reign as the best-selling luxury brand in the United States….but the 2011 sales figures have been disappointing for Lexus and they have now been overtaken by BMW. Plagued by production problems resulting from last March’s earthquake and tsunami, Lexus production as well as many other parts supply issues have reduced their sales by 13% in the US to just 198,552 vehicles sold for 2011. BMW, on the other hand, saw their sales increase by 13 percent to 247,907 units. This finally earns them the title as the best-selling luxury automaker in America. Meanwhile the sales battle between BMW and Mercedes Benz in the US for 2011 has been very close with BMW taking the lead over Mercedes Benz by just 2,715 vehicles.
