Volkswagen Group Malaysia has announced that the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) models will be available in 2012. If you are in the market for a executive or family sedan and ready to buy this new year 2012, STOP and wait as the VW Passat sedan will be coming to all VW showrooms this 2012. The assembly has already started and VW is getting the stock ready as the demand will be be very high. To date stocks of the fully imported Passat sedan are almost sold out and judging by this demand, the localised CKD Passat sedan will be a runaway success.
This comes after an announcement by Dato Sri Mohd Khamil Jamil, Group Managing Director, DRB-HICOM, that the first batch of Passat 1.8 CKD models started its production roll-out at DRB-HICOM Automotive Complex in Pekan on November 23, 2011. To date, DRB-HICOM has assembled about 70 units of the Passat 1.8 CKD model, which will be used internally by VGM in preparation of its launch. Looking at the dimensions and specifications, it is clear that its European competitors like the Peugeot 508 and Volvo S60 will have trouble trying to catch up.
Volkswagen Group Malaysia is currently assessing the market introduction and pricing strategy of the vehicle, and will make an announcement at an appropriate time. Volkswagen AG and DRB-HICOM signed an agreement for local vehicle assembly in December 2010.
“DRB-HICOM is the assembler of Volkswagen CKD products in Malaysia. Volkswagen Group Malaysia, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group in Germany, is responsible for the market introductions of all Volkswagen products, both CKD and CBU, into the Malaysian market,” said Mr. Ricky Tay, Managing Director, Volkswagen Group Malaysia. Volkswagen has 62 manufacturing plants all over the world and each Volkswagen vehicle produced has to meet the high standards that have been set before introducing it into the market,” he added.
