Land Rover (M) Sdn Bhd has teamed up with Cobra (Combined Old Boys Rugby Association) Club Malaysia to host public screening of ‘live’ matches of the on-going Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand at the club’s premises in Petaling Jaya from September 9 to October 23, 2011. The partnership with the New Zealand High Commission and Cobra Club, the only private rugby club in Malaysia, in promoting the month-long event is in line with Land Rover’s role as official sponsor of Rugby World Cup 2011 and Rugby World Cup 2015 in England.
The public screening of Rugby World Cup 2011 was officially launched by the New Zealand High Commissioner to Malaysia, David Pine, Land Rover Malaysia managing director Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman and Cobra Club president Boon Hoon Chee just before the opening match between New Zealand and Tonga. Speaking at the launch, Land Rover Malaysia managing director Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman said that the iconic 4X4 brand and the sport shared a lot of similarities. “Power, agility and the indomitable spirit are the core qualities that sum up both Land Rover and competitive rugby. It is fitting that the world’s finest all-terrain vehicles – sold in over 160 markets worldwide – are now supporting the world’s ultimate rugby competition. We are pleased to be partnering Cobra Club in promoting the sport to more Malaysians in conjunction with the Rugby World Cup,” he said.
Land Rover Malaysia will be showcasing the full range of Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles at Cobra Club during the period. The company has also come in as sponsor of a special fund-raising event organised by the New Zealand High Commission in conjunction with the ‘live’ telecast of the Rugby World Cup 2011 Final on October 23, 2011. The special guest will be ex-All Black, Craig Dowd, who will be providing expert commentary on the game. Rugby fans can enjoy the Final on big screen and a sumptuous buffet at the Shangri-la Hotel Ballroom at RM175 nett per pax. All profits will be donated to The Prime Minister’s Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust to help in the rebuilding of the city in New Zealand’s South Island. Those interested can contact the High Commission at Tel: 03-20742533 ext 107 or Email: [email protected]. Tickets can also be purchased at all Sime Darby Auto Connexion outlets in the Klang Valley. For ticketing details, they can contact Mona at 03-7946 3888.
Land Rover Malaysia, the COBRA Club and the New Zealand High Commission will also be organising a Rugby Clinic with Craig Dowd at the Astaka Field in Petaling Jaya for junior rugby enthusiasts on Saturday, the 22nd October 2011 at 3.45 pm. The Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand is expected to be attended by over 1.6 million spectators and watched by a global television audience of well over 4 billion in more than 200 countries.
