Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium – 1 May 2011 :- Chris Van der Drift spectacularly secured MOFAZ Racing’s first podium for 2011, by capturing the 2nd Runner-Up position in Race 2 of the World Series by Renault Formula 3.5 race meeting at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. After being forced to take time off racing for several months due to the horrific Brands Hatch accident that befell him during a Superleague Formula race meeting, Van der Drift has been concentrating on fully recovering his health and his race form, and went against all odds when he returned to the track just 2 months after the crash and proving to everyone that he is well and ready to be back in the race seat.
Showing some promising times during Collective Tests 1 and 2 earlier in the week, Chris bounced back from a very trying Race 1 that saw major race traffic blocking his determination to be in a frontrunning position, and recorded 4th fastest timing throughout most of the Qualifying 2 session to start Race 2 from P4 on the grid. With focused determination in hand, and a spectacular display of pit stop excellence from the MOFAZ Racing crew, Chris gained a position to secure P3, which he maintained throughout the race despite some challenging manoeuvres from his competitors throughout the remaining laps. CHRIS VAN DER DRIFT: “I am thankful to be able to achieve our first podium of 2011 together with MOFAZ Racing, an outstanding team indeed which has helped me realise my determination to be back in competitive racing again. Special thanks also go out to our Team Principal, Haji Fauzy, who maintained his faith in me and helped me get this drive, as well as, my Race Engineer, Brian Ireland and the rest of the remarkable team that makes up MOFAZ Racing”. HAJI FAUZY, Team Principal of MOFAZ Racing: “Our heartiest congratulations to Chris Van der Drift for his outstanding performance, and our thanks to him and our dedicated crew for securing our first 2011 podium. Chris has indeed been working with MOFAZ Racing prior to this since 2010, coaching our junior drivers in Formula BMW Pacific, showing ultimate commitment to helping others gain a better driving advantage through his vast experience and knowledge. We are also thankful to our partners, Wang Selamat, who has made it possible for Chris to make a comeback to the World Series by Renault Formula 3.5 championship with our team”. FERHAN FAUZY, MOFAZ Racing’s Commercial Director: “We worked very hard over the winter to improve ourselves, and it has started to pay off now. Personally, I would like to thank the team for putting in a great effort indeed, and I look forward to the next race at Monza”. The team will next compete at Monza, Italy on May 14 -15, for the 3rd Race Meeting of the World Series by Renault. For more information about MOFAZ Racing, please visit www.mofazracing.com
