It was a good clean race where Paul Poon took the win home for Hong Kong in Round 2 of the Asian Touring Car Series today. The China Dragon Racing team driver made a good start, immediately gaining two places. Poon then went on to chase the race leaders, Hideharu Kuroki and Eric Kwong into lap 2. By the next lap, Poon, overtook the duo to claim the lead and held it all the way to the chequered flag. Speaking about the next race to be held in Malaysia during the Asian Festival Of Speed, Poon said, “I have never been to Sepang before and I am really looking forward to the race”.
Following him across the line in second was Eric Kwong who managed to find a way past Kuroki midway through the race and held on to his position all the way to the end. Kuroki was running in third when Lau, who started the race in seventh, moved up the ranks to catch up to the leading pack. By lap 4 Lau was right behind Kuroki and found a way past the Japanese and immediately set out to clock his fastest time of the day on the next lap. Lau finished the race in third while Kuroki took fourth overall and second for the ATCS category.
Finishing in eighth overall, Chen Jun San also took the podium for third in the ATCS category. There was a great battle in the middle of the pack between Andy Yan and Lo Ka Chun, the duo were nose to tail from lap eight onwards all the way to the flags. Yan crossed the line just 0.5 seconds ahead of Lo in an intense battle.
