Along with eleven other companies, automotive supplier Robert Bosch Car Multimedia GmbH and navigation system vendor TomTom N.V. have joined the Genivi Alliance for an open source in-vehicle infotainment platform. With the move, the companies hope to benefit from cost reductions and faster time to market enabled by the open source model.
Robert Bosch Car Multimedia GmbH, a subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH, has joined Genivi as a core member. The company’s primary goal is to reduce development time and minimize costs associated with the development of new products. Besides Robert Bosch Car Multimedia, the Bosch group is also involved in the Genivi Alliance through Advanced Driver Information Technology (ADIT), another subsidiary.
Similar to Bosch, Dutch navigation system manufacturer TomTom is seeking benefits through standardization. Among the companies joining the Genivi alliance is also Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a subsidiary of India’s largest industrial conglomerate Tata group. TCS provides IT and engineering services throughout the world an maintains significant activities in Europe. Other companies which recently have joined the Genivi Alliance include Harman International, BearingPoint GmbH, Galician Automotive Technology Center (CTAG), and Mitac International.
