The Ford Fiesta 5-door hatchback will be Ford’s most premium subcompact offering when it is launched this August. Arriving at all AutoConnexion dealers and showrooms nationwide, this is Ford’s global compact car offering in decades, and currently its only premium small car. In order to pay homage to its European roots, Ford in Malaysia will only offer the hatchback at first. Adding to its purchase appeal will be Ford’s new long warranty plan and AutoConnexion’s maintenance program which they are now running for all current Ford’s, the Ranger, Mondeo and Focus. This is a 3 year free maintenance and 60,000 warranty program which gives 3 years of worry free driving at the least for new owners. This program allows many new car buyers to look at better budgeting their expenses as a long warranty does not mean no expenses in running a car. Free maintenance is the best bet.
Ford says the Fiesta boasts 15 class-exclusive features – such as keyless entry with push-button start, Sync, EasyFuel cap-less fueling, as well as significantly improved interior quietness (compared to the European product) due to the addition of a laminated windshield and additional sound dampening materials. Two engine versions will be offered.
The 2011 Fiesta features a 1.6-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine that is rated at 120 horsepower and 112 pound-feet of torque. This four-cylinder features Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT), which allows smaller displacement for increased fuel economy without compromising performance. Ford also makes use of an aggressive deceleration fuel shutoff, combined with an engine accessory drive system that was designed to improve efficiency by reducing the energy it takes to power the air conditioner and alternator. When coupled with electric power assist steering, the small gains translate to measurable gains in fuel economy.
The 1.6-liter will come equipped exclusively with a dual-clutch dry transmission — complete with six forward moving gears, dubbed “Powershift” by Ford. Ford has announced the 2011 Fiesta, with a six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission, has been given an EPA fuel economy rating of 29 mpg city / 40 mpg highway. Likewise, the five-speed manual Fiesta is rated at 28 mpg city / 37 mpg highway. There is also a 1.4-liter (95 hp) version that will be sold here in Malaysia. While Ford has been touting the 40 mpg figure for awhile, this is the first time the EPA has confirmed it. With the victory in place, the Fiesta boasts a highway fuel efficiency rating that is 5 mpg better than the Honda Jazz and 4 mpg more than the Toyota Yaris.
To address traditional concerns regarding safety in a small vehicle, Ford has developed what it claims is the safest car in the segment. Ford boasts that the Fiesta features more Boron (strongest automotive-grade steel available) steel than any Ford product, with key placement of boron steel in the most vulnerable locations.
In all, the Fiesta’s frame and sub-structure features over 55 percent high, or ultra-high strength steel. In addition to paying special attention to creating a rigid steel cage for the Fiesta’s occupants, Ford has also incorporated a dual-stage front airbags for the Fiesta.
Prices look to be under RM84,000 for the 1.6-liter with the dual clutch 6-speed gearbox. This makes it the most modern and advanced compact car for sale in Malaysia
