Have a look and arrange a test drive with this latest Mazda2 at One Utama shopping mall this weekend. At its launch last week, the Mazda2 was introduced as a four-door hatchback and a four-door sedan. Mazda has also released the basic dimensions of the 2, and in comparison with the likes of Chevy Aveo, Honda Jazz and Toyota Yaris. The Mazda 2, at 3,949 mm, comes closest to the longest car in the group, the Jazz with its 4,105 mm overall length.
On the other hand, the Mazda2 is some 50 mm (nearly 2 inches) shorter in overall height than both Jazz and Yaris. All four are virtually the same in width and wheelbase.
Perhaps explaining the lower height, Mazda says its first mission with the Mazda2 was to analyze and define the optimal size of a compact vehicle, and build a car no larger than it had to be.
There are no surprises in the suspension department, with MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam set-up in the rear. The latter, while not the last word in performance, is the best set-up for rear cargo room, and a light car with a very stiff body can be made to handle well even without an independent rear suspension.
Only one petrol-fueled 1.5-litre engine is available with a four-speed automatic transmission. Selling price starts at RM77,622 and work its way up to just RM82,822 for the top ‘R’ Spec.
