The Toyota Land Cruiser 100 Series that was produced between 1998 and 2007 is another excellent off-road vehicle that has been somewhat forgotten by many when looking for a used SUV. In Borneo it is a hot selling vehicle however it is almost forgotten in this part of Malaysia.
Toyota took the effort to significantly improve the engine in this model over the classic FZJ80, and it even had better overall fuel economy despite its hefty weight and engine size. This vehicle features a 4.7 liter V8 engine or a 4.2 diesel and is available in either manual (very rare) or automatic transmission depending on the preferences of the owner.
This Toyota 100 series does lack a solid axle which gives some limitations when it comes to taking the vehicle to some of the more extreme terrain locations available in Borneo where it is the most favored vehicle by timber merchants, plantation owners and nature lovers, but it has equivalent performance to the FZJ80 in these circumstances.
Toyota also significantly improved the brakes in the 100 series compared to past models, and the vehicle is assessed as being extremely reliable and durable. For those who also enjoy driving on-road, the SUV has no issues with cruising at speeds above 160km/h, and it is not uncommon to find models with more than 500,000 kilometers on them.
Today a used early unit with little 4×4 use and full specification will fetch between RM45,000 to RM55,000. However, we suggest to look at the 2000-2005 4.2 diesel turbo variant with slightly flared arches, beige over brown interior and the VX Limited variant which can be yours for between RM60,000 to 72,000.
