The last time Nissan sold the Terrano 4×4 (pictured above is the 1996 Terrano) here in Malaysia it was a petrol driven 2.4-liter mated to a manual gearbox only and it was a full Nissan product. Now with Nissan’s alliance with Renault and their ownership of Dacia (a Romanian car brand that was bought over by Renault in 1999) there seems to be a more sensible Terrano available in some markets.
Dacia has a hardcore 4×4 called the Duster and the latest Nissan Terrano looks very much like a re-engineered year 2010 Dacia Duster 4×4 SUV.
Already selling well in India, the Nissan Terrano comes with full SUV features and a tough exterior. Nissan in Malaysia should consider selling this new Terrano as its selling price and engine options (1.5 diesel) would make is a worthy segment competitor.
The engine options for the new Nissan Terrano starts with a frugal Renault developed 1.5-liter diesel engine capable of 110PS of power and a substantial 200Nm of torque, while the bigger Renault provided 1.6-litre petrol engine churns out 104PS of power and 145Nm of torque. These come mated to either a 6-speed manual gear box or a 6-Speed Advanced Auto Drive or better known as an AMT. Lets wait and see if Nissan in Malaysia makes a move forward with this new Terrano SUV.
