Volvo will bring the S90, a premium sedan to compete directly with the Mercedes S-Class and Audi A8. The Volvo S90 is expected to make its global debut soon after deliveries of the XC90 SUV starts which will share most of its technology. This vehicle will serve as the flagship model for the company.
The S90 is based on SPA platform that also underpins XC90 crossover. The S90‘s new design will be the combination of the SUV and S80 sedan. The new vehicle is seen as the revival strategy by the car maker to reignite its slow moving S80 sedan in the market. After the success of the XC90, Volvo is looking forward with S90 to meet the strategy of raising the yearly sales up to 800,000 units by the year 2020.
The Volvo S90 will be a four-door sedan with bold radiator grille and four vertical slats with the chrome finish in the headlights. The rear will receive large tail lamps, quarter windows and long wheelbase.
On the inside, the car will have a roomy cabin with upmarket quality of material used over the dashboard while the seats will come with leather covering. The car receives huge tablet-like touchscreen, TFT screen and digital gauges.
Under the bonnet, the new Volvo S90 will get the 2.0 liter engine capable of producing power output of 316 HP at 5700 rpm and 400Nm of peak torque at 2,200 to 4,500 rpm and it will be coupled with the 8-speed transmission. More will be shared as we get the information. (pictured below is the early concept)
